What to study for the test

-          The difference between a city, a town and a village

-          The main buildings/places in a city

-          The main rooms in a house and the activities that take place in them

-          The structures “Are there any…?” – “Yes, there are/No, there aren’t” & “Is there a…?” – “Yes, there is/No, there isn’t”

-          Names of things that begin with “sh-“ and “ch-“

All the activities in Unit 1 on the Multi-ROM can help us study for the exam.

Hi everybody!

In our third session of Science, we focused on natural and artificial materials. Now we know that natural materials are found in nature whereas artificial ones are made in factories from the former. And another thing that we’ve learned in English is to say what material a given object is made of.

What we enjoyed most about the session was the online activity in which we had to drag several objects into the right box according to the material they were made of. However, our teacher was very strict and did not allow us to sit down until we managed to say in a loud and clear voice: “(this object) is made of (this material)”.

En la nostra tercera sessió de “Science” vam centrar-nos en els materials naturals i artificials. Ara sabem que els materials naturals es troben a la naturalesa i que els artificials són fets en fàbriques a partir dels naturals. I una altra cosa que hem après a dir en anglès és de quin material està fet un determinat objecte.

El que ens va agradar més de la sessió va ser l’activitat en línia en què havíem d’arrossegar diversos objectes a la casella corresponent en funció del material de què estaven fets. Malgrat tot, la nostra mestra va ser molt estricta i no ens deixava asseure’ns als nostres llocs fins que no aconseguíem dir en veu alta i clara: “(this object) is made of (this material)”.

Hello families!

We sure love dogs, but we’d like to learn about other animals as well, so we are thinking of making a poster with pictures of wild animals. We’ll need your help: please cut out photos of wild animals you find in magazines, postcards, internet, so that we can talk about them in class this coming week. Thank you!!

Hola famílies!

Certament ens agraden els gossos, però ens agradaria aprendre coses sobre altres animals també, de manera que estem pensant en fer un pòster amb fotografies d’animals salvatges. Ens caldrà la vostra ajuda: si us plau, retalleu fotos d’animals salvatges que trobeu a revistes, postals, internet, perquè puguem parlar d’ells a la classe aquesta setmana entrant. Gràcies!

Hello!

This week we've been working on the structures "there is", "there are (some)" and "there aren't any" together with some vocabulary related to the buildings in a city, town or village. Since we already master these structures, we do think it's high time we transferred them to other contexts. So, the idea is that we describe this photo to our parents using the new-acquired structures: "In this bedroom, there is a....; there are some..., but there aren't any...". We must be self-confident and show our families that we can already make short descriptions in English!

Aquesta setmana hem estat treballant en les estructures "there is", "there are (some)" i "there aren't any" juntament amb vocabulari relacionat amb els edificis d'una ciutat, vila o poble. Com que ja dominem aquestes estructures, pensem que ja va sent hora que les utilitzem en d'altres contextos. Per tant, la idea és que descrivim aquesta fotografia als nostres pares utilitzant les estructures que hem adquirit: "In this bedroom, there is a....; there are some..., but there aren't any...". Hem de tenir confiança en nosaltres mateixos i mostrar a les nostres famílies que ja podem fer petites descripcions en anglès!

Here we are again!

Our teacher is really impressed with us! We’ve written the story of Josephine in our book almost without help!! Now we will practise reading it while listening to it on the CD since we need to realise that words don’t sound the way they are written. Don’t forget to have fun with the song we posted about last week!

Ja som aquí un altre cop!

La nostra mestra està molt impressionada amb nosaltres! Hem escrit el conte de la Josephine al llibre gairebé sense ajuda!! Ara hem de practicar la lectura mentre escoltem el CD ja que hem d’adonar-nos que les paraules no sonen tal com s’escriuen. No us oblideu de divertir-vos amb la cançó que us vam mencionar a l’últim missatge!

Hello 1st Year!

We would like to show our families some of the things we’ve learnt for the last three weeks. In our CD there is a song about a dog called Bingo, and we’ve brought home a drawing of this dog with the letters that spell its name. We should listen to the CD and sing the song as often as possible, since repetition is very important in language learning. We have also talked about the sizes and colours of the dogs. Ask your child to describe the dogs you see in pictures, on the street, etc.

Ens agradaria ensenyar les nostres famílies algunes de les coses que hem après aquestes tres setmanes. Al nostre CD hi ha una cançó sobre un gos que es diu Bingo, i hem portat a casa un dibuix d’aquest gos amb les lletres que composen el seu nom. Hauríem d’escoltar el CD i cantar la cançó tantes vegades com puguem ja que la repetició és molt important en l’aprenentatge d’una llengua. També hem parlat de les mides i els colors dels gossos. Demaneu al vostre fill que us descrigui els gossos que veieu en fotografies, al carrer, etc.

3rd Year

This year, third-year students will start doing some CLIL. But what does CLIL mean? CLIL refers to situations in which subjects are taught through a foreign language with a double aim: the learning of content and the simultaneous learning of a foreign language. The subject which third-students will learn through the English language is Science. There will be only one session of an hour a week, but we'll make the most of it. Actually, the students will have to acquire the most important content from the official curriculum of Science for the middle cycle in English.

This week, we've been looking at living beings and inanimate objects. After their first session of CLIL, the students are able to define a living thing and a non-living thing in English, as well as to provide some examples of each category. And another thing to bear in mind is that they do not only learn new vocabulary, but also some useful structures that allow them to make complete, meaningful sentences.

Aquest any, els alumnes de 3r començaran a fer AICLE. Però què és l'AICLE? L'AICLE fa referència a aquelles situacions en què determinats temes o àrees són ensenyats a través d'una llengua estrangera amb un objectiu doble: l'aprenentatge del contingut i, de manera simultània, l'aprenentatge de la llengua estrangera. L'àrea que els alumnes de 3r aprendran a través de la llengua anglesa és Coneixement del medi natural i social. Hi haurà una sola sessió d'una hora a la setmana, però l'aprofitarem al màxim. De fet, els estudiants hauran d'adquirir en anglès els continguts més importants del currículum oficial d'aquesta àrea per a cicle mitjà.

Aquesta setmana ens hem dedicat als éssers vius i éssers inerts. Després de la primera sessió d'AICLE, els alumnes són capaços de definir un ésser viu i un objecte inanimat en anglès, així com donar alguns exemples de cada categoria. I un altre aspecte a tenir en compte és que no només aprenen vocabulari nou, sinó també (i sobretot) estructures útils que els permetin produir frases completes amb significat.
