2nd Year

Christmas is really here and your children won't have an English class until the 12th of January! That's a long time for any language learner, so we must make an effort and practise a little during the break. Here are some tasks you should do:

-Review all the word cards you've made and practise their pronunciation. Here's a link to an online dictionary where you will be able to listen to the pronunciation in UK English and USA English: http://www.wordreference.com/es/

-Practise writing these words in the notebook. Parents can dictate them to children and the other way round!

-Listen to the English CD.

Apart from this, which is "homework", there are other fun things you can do: check English books at the local library, watch TV in English, surf the net (especially the BBC site, but also Disney and many others).

Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year!!

Fins l'any vinent!

3rd & 4th Years

Our teacher of English has given us some homework for our Christmas holidays. It’s not much, and as we have a lot of time ahead of us, we won’t have the slightest problem to do it. Besides, we don’t want our English to get rusty, do we?
Before we go, we’d like to take the opportunity to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Thursday 9 December 2010

1st, 3rd & 4th Years

Hi everybody!
We’ve just begun to learn our Christmas carols in class, and we are well aware that there’s no time to be lost, that’s why we should rehearse the songs at home with the aid of the Internet.
We hope we’ll have a great time with our rehearsals!

Hola a tothom!

Sunday 5 December 2010

2nd Year

Hello!

We hope you're having a nice break. It is best, though, not to loose touch with the foreign language we're learning, so there are a couple of tasks that we can do these days.

Word cards: we started a couple of sets in class, that we need to finish so that we can use them in our games. Clothes and food. In the Activity Book there are three sets of food cards, but we only have to complete two: the set with the ice-cream and the set with the milk (12 cards in total, plus six cards of clothes). Remember to initial the cards on the back and to write the word in English, that you will find in the picture dictionary at the end of the student's book.

Christmas Carol: we have the lyrics in the notebook, and all the children know the tune. Note that the pronunciation of "ha'penny" is "heipni". Take a chance to explore your child's notebook and comment it with him/her.

See you soon!

Hola!

5th Year

Hello!

This week we're testing our knowledge of unit 2. We have worked a lot, but in the test we will only concentrate on part of what we've done in class.

Vocabulary: animals, animal clues, animal classification, prepositions of place, parts of the day.
Grammar: identifying where animal clues are in a landscape (prepositions of place), talking about routines (present simple), definitions of types of animals.
Phonics: the sound "i" and the sound "o"; their spelling.

We can revise all this in our student's, activity and grammar and writing books, and of course, in our notebook. Take a chance to revise all of the other topics we've studied, even if they are not going to be in the test.

Good luck!!

Hola!

Bona sort!

2nd Year

Hello again!

In the last few weeks we've been studying something really close to your children: teeth and food. We've been working on a story about a dentist. This week we're taking a booklet home to practise our listening, reading and speaking skills. Your child's task for next Wednesday is to listen to the story while reading it and to practise reading aloud. When she comes back to class she'll have to read the story loud to the rest of the children.

Have fun!! Divertiu-vos!!

Wednesday 17 November 2010

1st Year

During the last three weeks we’ve been working on a story about animals titled “Big Owl”. Apart from listening to it several times, we’ve been practising the names of the animals and their corresponding adjectives of size, and we’ve also designed a booklet which could help us tell the story to others. That’s why we’d like to take our booklets home, show them to our families and tell them the story with the aid of both this visual material and the CD.

Monday 15 November 2010

Monday 8 November 2010

3rd Year

Since we’ve just learned the five senses and the five organs of sense, we can do an activity that will help us remember the new vocabulary:
1-      Draw a hand on a piece of cardboard.
2-      Draw an organ of sense at the end of each finger (an eye, an ear, a tongue, a hand or a foot, and a nose).
3-      Write the sense verbs (see, hear, taste, feel and smell) next to the corresponding part of the body.
The teacher told us that she would put some of our posters on the wall in the classroom for revision. Let’s see who will do the best ones...

Monday 1 November 2010

1st Year

Last week we made a scary Halloween jack-o’-lantern in class. The teacher told us that jack-o’-lanterns are pumpkins which have been hollowed out, carved with a face, and lit with a candle. In the USA and other English-speaking countries, on the night of October 31st - November 1st, jack-o’-lanterns are put on front porches so that trick-or-treaters or party guests can see the light flickering through the carvings. Oh, how spooky!!!

Tuesday 26 October 2010

4th Year

Our command of English is improving very quickly. We’ve just learned the main parts and joints of the body, as well as some types of movements that we can do with them; and we are also able to make simple physical descriptions, both orally and in writing.
Our teacher has encouraged us to practise online some of the new vocabulary and structures at: http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/make-your-own/make-your-monster. It might be a good way of keeping on learning and having fun at the same time, mightn’t it?

1. Escoltar la història "The Dentist" al CD.

Wednesday 13 October 2010

1st Year

We’ve devoted the last four sessions of English to art and, more specifically, to Vincent Van Gogh and his most popular paintings. This means that we can talk about the latter, especially about “The Bedroom in Arles” and “Sunflowers”, and we can also give some important information about the artist.
Since this weekend we’ll have our Student’s books at home, we’d like to show to our parents what we’ve learned about this Post-Impressionist painter and his works of art. In English, of course!

Friday 8 October 2010

Hello!

This long weekend your children will take their books and notebooks home. They have to complete two tasks (as written in the diary and explained in class):

1. Read Josphine's story on page 6 of the book.
2. Finish October's cover in their notebook (and the general cover if they haven't already). They have to decorate and colour the page.

ATTENTION:  they do NOT have to memorise the story, they just have to practise it (listening to the CD too) so that they can read it loud in class.

Have a good weekend!

3rd Year

During these first three weeks at school, apart from revising the main contents we acquired last year, we’ve learned about the members of a family, as well as the people who work at a school and the main places at the latter. And since we’d like to consolidate all this knowledge, we should do activities 2 & 3 from Unit 1 on the Multi-ROM.

5th Year

Greetings!

This week we've been to the computer room and we have seen our blog, we have practised our spelling and we have used our multi-rom. It is very important to keep practising: the multi-rom is a very important part of the course since it contains lots of information, extra practise and it is fun to use. Make sure you keep it at hand and you don't loose it! Use it every week.

Some of us are a little rusty with the alphabet, the numbers, the days of the week and the months of the year... We've studied this vocabulary year after year and we can not afford not to know it. Revise it every week, please.

Salutacions!

Hem estudiat aquest vocabulari any rere any i no ens podem permetre no saber-lo. Repasseu-lo cada setmana, si us plau.

Take care!

2nd Year

Hello everyone!

2nd Year students are working hard! We've been learning the name of clothes in class, we've been singing a fun song about the parts of our body, and we have listened to a great story that we'd like to share with you. We're also practising our writing skills in the notebook and our oral skills asking and answering different questions (date, age, favourite food, colour, animal, football team...).

Look at the first couple of pages of the student's book and elicit information from your children: you can find the names of the clothes in the picture dictionary at the end of the book (red section), and you can listen to the story in the CD. Encourage your child to repeat the story back to you and play games where clothes and parts of the body are involved. Ask your child to sing the song we're learning in class to you.

Hola a tothom!

Regards!

1st Year

During these first two weeks at school, we’ve been introduced to some important routines for the English class, such as the Class Leader’s role, the class work plan and its check, presentations on stories, performances, rhymes, songs or tongue twisters, and the assessment on both our classmates’ presentations and the class itself. The methodology our teacher of English uses in class allows and helps us to use the English language in a natural way: to communicate, to plan, to give instructions to others, to check our work, to offer opinions, and for self-evaluation. In other words, we learn the English language by using it in real-like situations.
By the way, we want to encourage our parents to listen to the Bingo song with us (on the CD we keep at home), since they should know how well we can sing it, perform it and understand it.

4th Year

Yesterday we agreed with our teacher of English that we wouldn’t correct all the homework in class, since this year there are lots of things to learn, and we should make the most of our time. However, the teacher advised us to keep updated with our homework because, on the days of the exams, she would make sure that everybody had done all the tasks so far.

3rd Year

We should remember to bring to class a passport-size photo of ourselves for next Friday, September 24. Why? Because we’ll do an activity related to our families and friends. Wow, what a good idea!
Oh, quina bona idea!
